The International Masters Cricket (IMC) is hosting the Over-70s World Cup in England, and among the nations participating, our very own Jayantha is representing Canada. This is a proud moment for York Cricket Club as our talisman, Jay, takes on the international stage.

Jayantha, often known as "Jay," has been a cornerstone of York Cricket Club for over 25 years. His cricketing prowess and innate leadership qualities saw him appointed as Captain in just his second year (1999). This initial stint lasted an impressive 13 years before he temporarily stepped down, only to return as Captain in 2020.

Jay's batting is a textbook display of skill and technique. His back-foot defenses are solid and reliable, while his stylish leg glances and classy square cuts add a touch of elegance to his play. His hawk-eye focus on the ball and millisecond reactions in the slip fielding positions have consistently made him a formidable presence on the field. Moreover, his sharp wicket-keeping abilities have saved countless runs and created numerous opportunities for the team.

As a captain, Jay's game awareness is unparalleled. His ability to make smart decisions, execute brilliant field changes, and position players strategically has been instrumental in the club's success. His leadership off the field as the Fixtures Secretary, a role he continues to hold, ensures the smooth functioning and organization of the club's matches and events.

Now, as Jay steps into the international arena, representing Canada in the International Masters Cricket Over-70s tournament, we wish him all the best. His commitment, discipline, and loyalty to York Cricket Club have left an indelible mark, and we are confident that he will bring the same level of excellence and leadership to the international stage.

A Note from Rohan, York CC's President:

To all members and their families of YCC, we are proud that a member of our club will be representing Canada in the Over-70s World Cup next month. We all know Jayantha to have a great cricket mind and a member who plays the game in the right spirit. Jay continues to show great interest and prowess for the game and is actively involved in teaching and coaching our youngsters in Ontario, and at the same time playing and mentoring our members too. I have had the pleasure of knowing Jay and playing with him at many levels in Toronto for many decades and it is great to see him represent the country. I wish Jay all the best and we will be here in Canada following the games and encouraging Jay right throughout the tournament. Thank you, Jay, and go have fun show them how it is done. - Ro

Here's to Jay, a true cricketing legend of York Cricket Club, and to his continued success both on and off the field. Best of luck in the tournament, Jay!
